Kat is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer who specializes in Relationship Based Dog Training.
After growing up in South Florida, Kat moved to Columbus in 2012 to attend The Ohio State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Before becoming a dog trainer, she developed her professional background in Technical Writing and Non-Profit Healthcare Administration.
Kat graduated from the Master Trainer Program at the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers in 2021, and is endorsed in the following specialities: Basic Obedience, Advanced Obedience, Behavior Modification, Utility, Breed Identification, Puppy Development, Tracking, Scent Detection, Personal Protection, Retrieval, and Assistance Dog work. She is also a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).
Kat’s training philosophy is that you can’t do better unless you know better, and she is committed to continuing her canine education. She has attended specialized seminars on Canine First Aid, Canine Nutrition, Service Dog Training & Selection, and Large Field Socialization.
With three dogs of her own, Kat is passionate about helping owners better understand their canine companions. Kat loves seeing owners build better communication and connection with their dogs so that they can live harmoniously together, both at home and on any adventure. Along with her spouse, Logan, Kat has travelled with her dogs by car and plane around the United States. As a pack they’ve canoed Ohio rivers, kayaked lagoons and natural springs in Florida, climbed mountains and waterfalls in California, backpacked throughout Appalachia, camped on the Great Lakes, stayed in countless hotels, sat on many a brewery patio, and trained for half marathons.
Clove
Demo Dog
Clove is a Great Pyrenees German Shepherd mix that Kat adopted from SAAP in Northern Kentucky in 2021. She helps out with consultations, lessons, and residency training. Clove also accompanies Kat to conferences and seminars around the country! Clove went through the Master Trainer Program at National K9 Learning Center with Kat when she was just seven months old, and she has been a professional demo dog ever since! Clove used to be a shy and reserved girl, but these days she’s often mistaken for a Golden Retriever on account of her outgoing and friendly nature! Her favorite hobbies include running, hiking, backpacking, and playing with her two older sisters, Olive & Denver.
